A little background: the small company embraces their English heritage and it’s where they found the inspiration for their name. The names Ashleigh (or Ashley) and Burwood come from the local history of the area in which Ashleigh & Burwood was born, from nearby aristocratic estates Ashley Park and Burwood Park.
As for the technology the company utilizes, the roots of the catalytic lamp dates back to 1898 when a French pharmacist created the Catalytic Combustion system to disinfect the air in hospitals. The original models were made of crystal or glass and operated with the same method of purification that is used today: diffusion by catalytic combustion.
The catalytic burner is very effective in cleaning and purifying the air by capturing and destroying the molecules that carry odours. The mixing of air and the movement from convection ensures that odours are destroyed as well as airborne microorganisms. Catalytic lamps actually purify the air before perfuming it.
In the 1920’s designers were commissioned to create aesthetic bottles to be offered to the private consumers. The lamps, which had previously cleansed and purified the air exclusively in the institutional setting, became available for personal, or private, use.
While air fresheners and room sprays typically mask odours, these lamps actively purify, cleanse and perfume the air throughout a wide area. Common odours in the home produced by cooking, pets, tobacco and exercising can be safely and effectively removed by using these catalytic Ashleigh & Burwood fragrance lamps.
These lamps can last indefinitely as long as care is taken with the body and the catalytic stone. Provided you use the lamps exclusively with Ashleigh & Burwood’s Lamp Oil they can last for up to 300 uses or over 700 hours. Ashleigh & Burwood are still testing stones that have passed 300 uses and they’re continuing to work at their optimum level.
